The Golden Rod is the most important early-game upgrade in Titan Fishing. It is the first A-tier rod most players obtain, and it carries you through Islands 3 and 4 until you get your hands on an S-tier drop. This guide covers exactly how to get it, what it costs, how it compares to alternatives, and whether the grind is worth your time.
Golden Rod Stats
| Stat | Value |
|---|---|
| Tier | A |
| Power | 650 |
| Luck | +15% |
| Special | +10% catch speed on Island 3 |
| Sell Value | 800 gems (do not sell it) |
The Golden Rod sits at the top of A-tier alongside the Deep Sea Rod. Its 650 Power is more than triple the Iron Rod (200 Power), which means you will catch A-tier and B-tier fish consistently instead of failing half the time. The +15% Luck bonus also stacks with skill book effects like Lucky Draw, making it a strong farming rod.

How to Get the Golden Rod
There are two ways to obtain the Golden Rod: crafting it yourself or trading for one. Crafting is the standard path and what most players do.
Method 1: Craft It (Recommended)
The Golden Rod is crafted at the Crafting Bench on Island 3. You must be at least Level 15 and have completed the Island 3 introductory quest “Shimmering Shores” to access the Crafting Bench.
Crafting Materials
| Material | Quantity | How to Obtain |
|---|---|---|
| Gold Ore | 10 | Mine gold nodes on Island 3 (respawn every 4 hours) |
| Crystal Shard | 5 | Dropped by Crystal Bass (B-tier, Island 3) |
| Reinforced Line | 3 | Purchased from the Island 2 shop (100 gems each) |
| Crafting Fee | 1,200 gems | Paid at the Crafting Bench |
Total cost breakdown:
- Gold Ore: Free (time-gated by node respawns)
- Crystal Shards: Free if you farm Crystal Bass, or buy from trades at roughly 50 gems each (250 gems total)
- Reinforced Line: 300 gems from the shop
- Crafting Fee: 1,200 gems
- Grand total: approximately 1,500 gems if you farm the free materials, or up to 1,750 gems if you buy Crystal Shards through trades
If you need help earning gems for the crafting cost, see our Gem Guide for the fastest methods.
Step-by-Step Crafting Process
- Travel to Island 3. Open the Island Map and select Shimmering Shores.
- Gather Gold Ore. Gold mining nodes appear as glowing yellow rocks scattered around Island 3 zones. Walk up to a node and tap to mine. Each node gives 1-2 Gold Ore and respawns every 4 hours. There are 5 nodes across the island, so you can gather 5-10 ore per session.
- Farm Crystal Bass. Crystal Bass are B-tier fish found in all Island 3 fishing zones. They have a roughly 30% encounter rate when using standard bait and drop Crystal Shards about 50% of the time on catch. Expect to catch 10-12 Crystal Bass to get your 5 shards.
- Buy Reinforced Line. Travel to Island 2 and visit the shop. Purchase 3 Reinforced Lines at 100 gems each.
- Visit the Crafting Bench. It is located near the Island 3 dock, marked with an anvil icon on your minimap. Tap the Crafting Bench and select “Golden Rod” from the recipe list.
- Confirm the craft. Review the materials and the 1,200 gem fee. Tap “Craft” and the Golden Rod is added to your inventory immediately. There is no wait timer.
- Equip the rod. Open your inventory, tap the Golden Rod, and select “Equip.” You will immediately notice the Power and Luck difference.
The entire process takes roughly 2-3 days for most players, limited mainly by Gold Ore node respawns. If you time your sessions around the 4-hour respawn cycle, you can get all 10 Gold Ore in about 2 days.
Method 2: Trade for It
If you do not want to gather materials, you can trade with another player for a Golden Rod. The current trade value is approximately 2,000-2,500 gems, which is more expensive than crafting but saves you the farming time.
To trade, visit the Trading Post on any island and search for “Golden Rod” listings. The 10% trade tax applies, so factor that into your budget. See the Trade Guide for general trading tips.
We recommend crafting over trading unless you are in a rush. The 500-1,000 gem premium for trading is significant in the early game when gems are scarce.
Comparison with Other A-Tier Rods
The Golden Rod is not the only A-tier rod in Titan Fishing. Here is how it stacks up:
| Rod | Tier | Power | Luck | Special | How to Obtain |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Golden Rod | A | 650 | +15% | +10% catch speed (Island 3) | Craft on Island 3 |
| Deep Sea Rod | A | 600 | +12% | +15% catch speed (Island 5) | Island 5 shop (2,000 gems) |
| Storm Rod | A | 620 | +10% | +20% damage during storms | Random drop from Island 4 storms |
| Coral Rod | A | 580 | +18% | None | Gacha pull (A-tier pity) |
The Golden Rod has the highest raw Power of any A-tier rod at 650. The Coral Rod has more Luck (+18% vs +15%) but significantly less Power, making it worse for progressing through Island 3 and 4 content. The Storm Rod is strong during storm events but weaker than the Golden Rod outside of storms.
The Deep Sea Rod is the most direct competitor. It has slightly less Power (600) and Luck (+12%) but its catch speed bonus applies on Island 5, where you will eventually spend most of your time. However, you cannot get the Deep Sea Rod until you reach Island 5, which requires clearing Island 4 content first, and that content is best done with the Golden Rod.
Verdict: The Golden Rod is the best A-tier rod for general progression. Craft it as soon as you reach Island 3.
Is the Golden Rod Worth It?
Yes, without question. Here is why:
The Power jump is massive. Going from the Iron Rod (200 Power) to the Golden Rod (650 Power) more than triples your fishing effectiveness. Fish that were impossible or frustrating to catch become routine. A-tier catches on Island 3 go from roughly 20% success rate with the Iron Rod to over 70% with the Golden Rod.
It is required for progression. The Island 3 final quest “Crystal Depths” explicitly requires the Golden Rod to complete. Without it, you cannot finish the Island 3 story and therefore cannot unlock Island 4. The game effectively forces you to craft it.
It lasts a long time. The Golden Rod remains your primary rod through Island 3, Island 4, and early Island 5. Most players use it for 2-4 weeks of play before upgrading to the Kraken Rod (S-tier). That is a tremendous amount of value from a 1,500 gem investment.
The Luck bonus stacks. Equipping Lucky Draw (+10% drop rate) alongside the Golden Rod’s +15% Luck gives you a combined +25% bonus to rare catches. This significantly improves your gem income from fish sales, which pays back the crafting cost quickly.
Common Questions
Can I skip the Golden Rod and wait for an S-tier rod? Technically, but it is not practical. S-tier rods come from boss drops (Kraken Rod, Titan Rod) or high-end crafting. You cannot reliably fight those bosses without at least an A-tier rod, creating a catch-22. The Golden Rod is the bridge you need.
What if I already have the Coral Rod from gacha? The Coral Rod (Power 580, Luck +18%) is decent but noticeably weaker than the Golden Rod in Power. You will feel the difference on Island 3 and 4 content. We still recommend crafting the Golden Rod as an upgrade. If gems are tight, you can delay the craft and use the Coral Rod temporarily, but you will eventually want the Golden Rod for the “Crystal Depths” quest anyway.
Should I sell the Golden Rod after getting an S-tier rod? No. Keep it as a backup and for the Rod Collector achievement (own 5 rods, rewards 500 gems). The 800 gem sell value is not worth losing a perfectly good A-tier rod.
How do I speed up Gold Ore farming? Log in every 4 hours to mine all 5 nodes. If you can do 3 sessions per day (morning, afternoon, evening), you will have all 10 Gold Ore in about 2 days. There is no way to bypass the respawn timer.
Are there any active codes that give Golden Rod materials? Occasionally, the developers release codes that give Gold Ore or Crystal Shards directly. Check our Codes Page for current active codes. Even if no material codes are live, gem codes help offset the 1,200 gem crafting fee.
What rod should I get after the Golden Rod? Your next target is the Kraken Rod (S-tier, Power 820, Luck +20%), which drops from the Kraken boss on Island 4. After that, aim for the Titan Rod (S-tier, Power 950, Luck +25%) from the Island 5 Titan Boss. See the Best Rods Guide for the full upgrade path and the Rod Wiki for complete stats on every rod.
