Skill books are one of the most important systems in Titan Fishing, but the game does a poor job of explaining how they actually work. Many players pull a great skill book from gacha and then struggle to figure out how to equip it, how slots unlock, or how to swap books without losing them. This guide covers everything about the equip process, slot progression, swapping, and the best book setups for every playstyle.
How to Equip a Skill Book (Step by Step)
Step 1: Open the Skill Book Menu
Tap the book icon on the bottom navigation bar of the main screen. It is the third icon from the left, between the inventory bag and the settings gear. This opens the Skill Book panel.
Step 2: View Your Book Inventory
The top section of the Skill Book panel shows all books you currently own. Books are sorted by tier (S, A, B, C) and marked with a colored border:
- Gold border = S-tier
- Purple border = A-tier
- Blue border = B-tier
- Gray border = C-tier

Step 3: Select a Book to Equip
Tap the book you want to equip. A detail popup appears with an “Equip” button at the bottom. Tap “Equip.”
Step 4: Choose a Slot
After tapping “Equip,” the bottom section of the panel highlights your available skill book slots. Each slot is a rounded square with a number (Slot 1, Slot 2, Slot 3). Tap the slot where you want to place the book.
If the slot already has a book in it, the existing book will be returned to your inventory and the new book takes its place. You do not lose the old book.
Step 5: Confirm
A confirmation dialog asks “Equip [Book Name] to Slot [Number]?” Tap “Confirm.” The book is now active and its effects apply immediately. You do not need to restart or re-enter a zone.
That is the full process. It takes about 10 seconds once you know where everything is.
Skill Book Slot Progression
You do not start with all three slots. Slots unlock as you progress through the game:

Slot 1 (Free)
Every new player starts with one skill book slot. The game gives you Quick Cast (C-tier) as a starter book during the tutorial. Equip it in Slot 1 to learn the system, but replace it as soon as you get anything better.
Slot 2 (Level 10)
When you hit Level 10, Slot 2 unlocks automatically. A notification pops up telling you a new slot is available. This is a big power spike because two books working together is significantly more effective than one. Your priority at this point should be equipping Lucky Draw (B-tier) alongside your best damage book.
Slot 3 (Level 20)
Slot 3 unlocks at Level 20. Having all three slots filled is a requirement for serious Island 4 and Island 5 content. The “Book Worm” achievement (equip 3 books simultaneously) also triggers here, awarding 300 gems.
There is no Slot 4. Three slots is the maximum in the current version of Titan Fishing.
How to Swap Skill Books
Swapping books is simple and has no cost or cooldown. You can change your equipped books at any time, even while standing in a fishing zone or right before a boss fight.
Method 1: Equip Over an Existing Book
Follow the same equip steps above. When you select a slot that already has a book, the old book goes back to your inventory and the new one takes its place. No gems spent, no materials lost.
Method 2: Unequip Without Replacing
If you want to empty a slot without putting a new book in:
- Open the Skill Book panel
- Tap the equipped book in the slot area (bottom of the panel)
- Tap “Unequip”
- The book returns to your inventory and the slot is now empty
There is rarely a reason to leave a slot empty. Even a C-tier book is better than nothing.
Important Notes on Swapping
- Swapping is instant. Effects change immediately. If you swap from Lucky Draw to Tidal Wave mid-session, your Luck bonus disappears and your Tidal Wave ability becomes available on the next cast.
- Swapping has no cooldown. You can change books as often as you want.
- Books are never destroyed by swapping. They always return to your inventory safely.
- You cannot equip the same book in two slots. Each book occupies one slot at a time. If you want the same effect in multiple slots, you need duplicate copies of that book.
Best Skill Book Setups by Playstyle
The right combination of books depends on what you are doing. Here are the recommended setups for each major activity:

Slots 1-2 (Levels 10-19):
- Slot 1: Lucky Draw (buy from shop for 500 gems if you do not have it)
- Slot 2: Your best damage or utility book

Common Issues and FAQ
I pulled a skill book but it is not appearing in my inventory. Check the “All” tab in the Skill Book panel. Books are sometimes filtered by tier. Tap “All” at the top to show every book you own. If it still does not appear, restart the game. There is a known visual bug where newly pulled books require a client restart to display.
Can I equip books during a boss fight? No. Once a boss fight begins, your loadout is locked until the fight ends (win or lose). Always set up your books before entering a boss arena. This is a common mistake that costs players their daily Kraken attempt.
Do skill book effects stack? Yes, different books stack. Lucky Draw’s +10% drop rate and Gold Rush’s +20% gem value both apply simultaneously. However, you cannot equip two copies of the same book to double its effect.
